Authorities are searching for two men and a teen who they suspect smashed a glass door in an East County home, pried open a locked safe and stole $10,000 in cash and property.

Detectives with the Alpine sheriff’s station believe the three masked burglars broke the door to get into the master bedroom and then used pry bars to force open the safe — which contained $9,000 in cash.

They broke into the home on Saxton Lane in Crest, an unincorporated community east of El Cajon, about 6:30 p.m. July 21. Investigators said the thieves fled with another small safe containing a handgun.

They were last seen heading south into a nearby canyon, sheriff’s officials said.

The thieves were spotted on surveillance footage.

The first is a Black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, who was wearing a black jacket, a green hood and black shoes. The second was a 6-foot-tall Black man who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black mask, dark gray pants and dark gray shoes. The third suspect is a Black juvenile about 5 feet 8 inches tall, who was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and purple and white shoes.

Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that helps lead to an arrest. San Diego County Crime Stoppers encouraged anyone with information to use their anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Potential witnesses can also call the Alpine sheriff’s station at (619) 659-2600 or the Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200.
