National Basketball Association star Ben Simmons, 25, of Australia played for the Philadelphia 76ers from July 2016 to October 2021. In February 2022, he joined the Brooklyn Nets.
On March 21, 2022, Simmons was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back. On April 4, 2022, Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash, 48, of Canada ruled out the Australian basketball player for the remainder of the NBA’s 2021-2022 regular season and play-in tournament.
A herniated disk is one of the most common causes of neck, back and leg pain. It is also called a bulging, ruptured or slipped disk.

On the evening of April 12, 2022, Simmons attended the game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Barclays Center in New York City, New York, United States. Seated on an elevated chair, he was wearing a green Prada lamb-skin suit jacket over a white Supreme shirt, which he paired with green Prada shorts and white Nike x Sacai shoes.
With the outfit, Simmons stood out. Almost everyone around him in the crowd was wearing black.
The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-108. Collectively, Simmons’ new teammates Kevin Durant, 33, of Maryland, USA and Kyrie Irving, 30, of New Jersey, USA had 59 points, 23 assists and eight rebounds during the game.
With a back injury, Simmons may not make his Brooklyn Nets debut very soon. The team would welcome the challenge of trying to integrate him into the team during the playoffs, according to Nash.
“(It is) another challenge but one that we’d welcome clearly so we’ll see,” ESPN quoted Nash as saying. “If he’s able to play at some point, it would be great to incorporate him and to try and learn as we go and see how he can help our team without having much history, or any history, with our group.”
