TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — To help put a stop to children drowning, Treasure Island Fire Rescue is teaming up with Safe Kids Worldwide, Inc. to give out free life jackets to children and their parents in the community.  The life jacket giveaway will take place on Monday, July 25 from 10 a.m. - noon at Caddy's Treasure Island. During the event, kids and parents will be able to learn and gather information about water safety and the importance of life jackets. Drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1-4 in Florida, the highest in the nation. The giveaway to help warn parents about the importance of keeping children safe around water, said Treasure Island Fire Rescue in a press release.  There will also be an opportunity where kids can learn more about emergency vehicles and get behind the wheel of one during a touch-a-truck event taking place with Treasure Island Fire Rescue members. Life jackets will be given out while supplies last.
