Fairfax police on Friday released body camera footage of last weekend’s incident in which officers ordered a juvenile holding a phone to the ground at gunpoint.

At a news conference Friday, Police Chief Kevin Davis provided more details surrounding the video, which went viral last week.

The unarmed juvenile recorded his approach toward officers who were detaining two other people before he is told by the cops at gunpoint to get on the ground. In the original video posted to social media, the juvenile can be heard asking why an officer has pointed a gun at him — “because you have a weapon,” that officer replies.

In the body-cam footage, another officer approaches and yells at the teen to drop his phone.

“If you just go by this viral video that kind of popped last weekend, I think there’s an assumption that this person was a (passerby). He was not a (passerby),” Davis said.

The chief said the person who recorded the video was one of three whom the police were chasing after receiving a 911 call from a hostess at an IHOP in Falls Church, July 9. The hostess told police “a crowd that included a person possibly armed with a gun” was walking around the restaurant threatening her, Davis said.

When officers arrived, Davis said, three juveniles ran away from the restaurant. Officers detained two of them right away.

“It’s a serious thing to point a firearm at a person,” Davis said. “So I understand the anxiety that folks in the community have after seeing this video go viral … we want you to be concerned when you see a video like that.”

Since 2018, Fairfax County police have been capturing the number of times an officer points their firearm at a person. “Not every police department in the country does this,” Davis said.

Davis maintained that officers acted “lawfully and in accordance with policies and … the community’s expectations.”

The three juveniles have been released to their parents; they haven’t been charged. No gun has been found.

The chief said that over the last decade, Fairfax County police have averaged 1.5 police shootings a year. Last year, he said, they had one. So far this year, the number stands at four.

On July 7, the police shot and killed a man in a house in McLean. On June 30, they shot and killed a man in the parking lot of the Springfield Town Center. Davis said body camera footage of each of those shootings would be released within 30 days of the incident, as per department policy.

There was a problem reporting this.

Anyways, I hope NoVa has a relaxed and productive Sunday. This website is dumb and the staff sometimes laughable, the extremists obvious and ridiculous, but at least we're all human. Let's cherish out humanity today before the artificial spines turn people into binary charge sacks.

Good for the immune system. Are you not entertained?!

Speaking of immune system, this B.A. 5 variant is no joke. Be careful out there. N95 or KN95 highly recommended in public. Most contagious strain. Little warning from our government about this as well. They'll act when it's too late.

Sac, I operate much of my belief based on an improbability principle, better known as Murphy's Law. That one moment when I scratch my face on accident underneath the N95 will be the moment I am infected. Then, if I was busy weakening my immune system by "protecting" it from "unseeable terrors," I might get sick! It's not a matter of "if" one is going to get the bug. Good luck out there and write your own narrative.

Well this variant does a good job of bypassing the immune system, and the current vaccines on the market due very little to protect against this variant as well. I'm saying temporarily it's not a bad idea at all to mask up in public at this time, to protect your self from getting sick. I think cases are going to skyrocket again in the near future. There's plenty of people with strong immune systems that are going to be put to the test. And not so sure about your face scratch theory....

Here goes: watch some more police bodycam footage. Go ahead, put this one in queue after a really violent one. There's one that takes place in a hospital. A man is brought in, but he's got a warrant. Police talk to him and end up pointing their guns at him. They demand that he show them his hands. He refuses, whining like a little child, sounding like he's talking to his mother. "I don't have a gun sir! I don't want to move! I'm afraid you'll shoot!" Do you want to guess if he had a gun or not? Of course he did. This person I am mentioning lied to police, made it sound like he was an injured child, then whipped out a gun at his final moments. Idk. Y'all go ahead and go on a ride-along and see if you could do any better.

He had a warrant for his arrest. Different set of circumstances l, whatever he says to get out of it is irrelevant. Nothing he's saying should be taken at face value in that moment if he has a warrant for his arrest.

Fair point. The circumstances represented in the article, coupled with the evidence discussed, is not nearly as terrible as the scenario I mentioned. That being said, who's word is really to be believed under all circumstances? I don't blame the police, nor do I blame the fool with the camera who put themselves in front of a person with a gun. This was an awful situation which was not made better by increasing aggression. The officer certainly could have maintained the situation without the employment of a firearm, but the cameraperson could have also screwed-off from a dangerous situation. Oh well!

He's allowed to record. And there was nothing dangerous occuring. They were released to their parents! The recorder complied with orders.

Sac, you are correct. My initial response was quite reactionary, but upon further investigation, I see more and more how a firearm was not necessary. Thankfully force was not used

It's two sets of people.

@335 we see 3 black juvenile males

1 red jacket w/ doo rag black pants

1 black shirt dark toned pants

1 northface black jacket with light toned pants

It listed the time the photo was taken as 9:12pm

Then the surveillance footage from 11:01 pm shows a different set of people

1 white male (the recorder) dark-toned trench coat (later to be revealed as a sweatshirt tied around waist), light toned pants

1 black male red shirt with reflective white horizontal lines

1 black male with black jacket and light toned pants

Then why did they run when the police showed up?

Is there something illegal in running?

Does a person need a reason to run?

Why did they go after the 2 black kids and let the white kid walk up taping the interaction. You do see he just walking like it was no thing.

Simple…blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crime compared to any and all other ethnic groups. Statistics I know self loathing white guys like yourself hate to admit, or continue to make excuses for them. It’s been going on for decades, where have you been?

Still looking for crimes comitted, charges, and a weapon. After detaining all three of the "suspects" all we got was a video of a dude having a gun pulled on him while recording from a reasonable distance. He complied with orders, by the way.

What? The person inside the IHOP with the red jacket is also walking outside the IHOP two hours later...has the same red Helly Hansen jacket with white reflective stripes and white shoes. At the very least he was in the IHOP earlier and then came back with different guys. It's also possible another one of them (the black male with light toned pants) was in the IHOP as well. The white male who was recording was not in the IHOP earlier but was definitely walking with them outside the IHOP later and the one recording.

"The chief said the person who recorded the video was one of three whom the police were chasing after receiving a 911 call from a hostess at an IHOP in Falls Church, July 9. The hostess told police “a crowd that included a person possibly armed with a gun” was walking around the restaurant threatening her, Davis said.

The three juveniles have been released to their parents; they haven’t been charged. No gun has been found."

But the biggest smoking gun? No weapon found. What a waste of time and resources. I'm sure the teens may have been acting like jerks, but maybe that worker mentioned "possibly armed" so the police would arrive more quickly to aid her. But they were such a threat, they end up being released to mommy and daddy. What a nothing burger.

Despicable democrat agenda driven media doing what they do on full display at this press conference.
